highly qualified School Nurse at Columbus Arts & Tech. Academy in
Columbus, Ohio, who provides quality health services at the
assigned school(s), following the Ohio Nurse Practice Act, the
Standards of School Nursing Practice and all school regulations

Opportunity: Responsibilities of the School Nurse include: 1.
School nurses facilitate normal development and positive student
response to interventions. • Engage in research and evaluation of
school health services, school health programs and school nursing
practices • Maintain health records on each student in accordance
with FERPA. 2. School nurses provide leadership in promoting health
and safety, including a healthy environment. • Promote a healthy
school environment for staff and students to support the link
between health and academic achievement. • Monitor health status of
students on a daily basis. • Communicable disease prevention and
reporting; following state, county, city health department and
district guidelines for control and management of communicable
diseases • Supervise compliance with district policy and Ohio
immunization laws through appropriate referral to physicians and
health care facilities for immunizations, including auditing,
follow-up, exclusion, and exemptions. • Facilitate the ordering of
school health supplies/equipment. • Provide first aid supplies and
PPE to staff members, in addition to training necessary for staff
to utilize the supplies safely and appropriately. • Assist with
OSHA compliance and exposure control planning. • Provide medication
training to all designated unlicensed staff; supervision of
medication administration to ensure safe procedures are followed
(at least once every 60 days). • Provide training/supervision to
unlicensed staff of district health/clinic procedures • Prepare and
submit required State, Local, and Constellation health reports. •
Collaborate with school staff members to find health education
resources; provide health education and health counseling to
students and staff; provide referrals as necessary. • Serve as a
resource person to the school staff members in health instruction •
Review, evaluate, and develop health procedures and programs that
protect and promote health and wellness utilizing evidence-based
resources. 3. School nurses provide quality health care and
intervene with actual and potential health problems. • Provide
direct nursing care for students with identified health problems. •
Provide first aid and supportive care and referral for illness and
injury. • Monitor student and staff health conditions and provide
referrals, as necessary. • Assess child abuse/neglect reports and
makes referrals, as appropriate; be a support to staff in their
roles as mandated reporters. • Provide screening, referral, and
follow-up services for state-mandated vision and hearing
screenings. 4. School nurses use clinical judgment in providing
case management services. • Create and implement student-specific
plans of care (EAP, IHP, 504), in collaboration with staff, for
student with identified healthcare needs • Provide staff training
regarding IHP, emergency action plans, 504s, and health-related
topics pertinent to their students. • Provide direct and indirect
supervision, as necessary, to an LPN under the direction of the
School Nurse Program Coordinator. • Delegate nursing tasks to
designated staff in accordance with Ohio's Nurse Practice Act,
documents and maintains records of clinical training. • Participate
in data collection related to the health services provided in the
school on a daily basis. • Participate in Professional Development
through attendance at meetings as identified. 5. School nurses
actively collaborate with others to build student and family
capacity for adaptation, self-management, self?advocacy and
learning. • Serve as a liaison between school personnel and
administration, family, community, and health care providers •
Communicate with parents regarding health issues of students
presenting during the school day • Consult with health care
providers regarding student health issues to coordinate assessment
and treatment plans. • Coordinate school and community health
activities • Seek and maintain collaborative partnerships with
community-based health organizations • Collaborate with staff
regarding special education/healthcare needs; perform health
assessment for multi-factored evaluation; attend IEP
conferences/staffing/RTI meetings, as appropriate 6. Other services
as requested by the School Nurse program Coordinator or designee.
About You: • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing • ODE school nurse
licensure required • Current Ohio license as a Registered Nurse •
Experience working with children • Proficient in relevant computer
applications. • Accuracy in keyboard skills and proven ability to
enter data with attention to detail. • Able to multitask,
prioritize and meet deadlines. • Must possess excellent
communication skills. • Problem solving skills: able to identify
and resolve problems in a timely manner; able to gather and analyze
information skillfully. • Interpersonal Skills: able to maintain
confidentiality, remain open to others' ideas and exhibit a
willingness to try new things. • Oral Communication: able to speak
clearly and persuasively in positive or negative situations,
demonstrate group presentation skills and conduct meetings. •
Written Communication: able to edit work for spelling and grammar,
present numerical data effectively and able to read and interpret
written information. • Planning/organizing able to prioritize and
plan work activities, use time efficiently and develop realistic
action plans. • Quality Control: able to demonstrate accuracy and
thoroughness and monitor own work to ensure quality. •
Adaptability: able to adapt to changes in the work environment,
manage competing demands and able to deal with frequent change,
delays or unexpected events. • Dependability: able to be
consistently at work and on time, follow instructions, respond to
leadership direction and solicit and accept feedback to improve

Compensation The salary range for this position is $55,000. Factors
