Nurse Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIH Must-Have: ACLS BLS NIH 2
years RN experience Description: The shift is 6:45 PM to 7:15 AM
with every other weekend required. Basic qualifications include a
diploma or associate degree in nursing. The unit consists of a
20-bed facility with bedside monitors aimed at providing excellent
teamwork. The ratio of staff to patients is 4:1. RNs are expected
to know how to read telemetry strips. Common diagnoses include
sepsis, stroke, CHF, and COPD. RNs should be familiar with
medications such as Cardizem, Heparin, and Amiodarone. Key skills
required include IV insertion, blood draws, and central line
management. Experience with dialysis fistula, CPAP/BiPAP, trach
care, peritoneal dialysis, epidural/PCA pumps, feeding tubes,
continuous bladder irrigation, and wound vacs is essential. RNs may
be required to titrate medications in some instances. Common
equipment used includes bedside monitors, bladder scanners, and
vein finders.
