Responsible for multiple projects and ongoing relationships with suppliers and suggest and/or evaluate opportunities for manufacturing process improvements. Centered on the identification, containment, and/or resolution of quality issues that arise in the manufacturing process, serve as a liaison between the Company and suppliers to resolve supplier quality issues and provide technical support during that process. Support the investigation of supplier quality problems and coordinate implementation of effective and timely resolution of problems. This includes supporting the completion of the 8D process including containment (attempting to ensure that problem parts do not make it into the field), root cause analysis (why did the problem occur), and corrective action (implementing steps to remedy the problem). Additional duties include: review and audit supplier manufacturing processes and quality systems and present audit results; improve supplier quality performance by conducting audits at supplier locations, ensure that accurate and timely records are maintained within various systems, including Supplier Quality Notifications (SQN), SAP ERP, and online Production Part Approval Process (PPAP), and post, calculate, analyze routine statistical data, and otherwise adhere to corporate purchasing policies and procedures; manage the quality of multiple suppliers, and participate in the manufacture of these products; apply knowledge of mechanical engineering to diagnose problems, determine the root cause(s) of those problems, and identify and implement corrective actions; interact with engineers at both the Company and its suppliers to work through product design and process issues. Job Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or closely related field and two (2) years of experience in automotive manufacturing industry, including familiarity with manufacturing environments, supply chain structures, and component requirements. Will also accept Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or closely related field in lieu of the Bachelor’s degree and two (2) years of experience requirements. Other experience, education, and skills must include: Statistical quality control techniques, including Pareto charts, control charts, capability analysis, and histogram analysis; Manufacturing operational excellence, including lean manufacturing and 5S; Geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T), including interpreting engineering drawings, applying ASME Y14.5 principles, and ensuring accurate communication of part geometry, allowable variation, and functional requirements between design, manufacturing, and inspection teams; Manufacturing or automotive quality standards, including familiarity with IATF 16949, ISO 9001, AIAG Core Tools (APQP, PPAP, FMEA, MSA, SPC) and application of these standards to ensure process capability, product compliance, and continuous improvement in the supply base; Conducting audits and driving continuous improvement initiatives; Purchasing and Global Supply Chain concepts, including supply continuity of material to meet production deliverables and deadlines; Problem-solving techniques, including 8D, 5 Whys, Ishikawa diagram, and Six Sigma; Analytical capability addressing complex problems, including identification of root causes leading to methodical problem solving with successful resolutions; and Organization, planning, documentation of tasks, and prioritization of work, coordination and planning a cadence of meetings for discussion of special projects and maintaining agendas and meeting minutes.
