ELECTRO-MECHANICAL TECHNICIAN The Electro-Mechanical Technician
responsible for performing preventive, predictive, and corrective
maintenance on electrical and mechanical equipment and first-level
support for controls troubleshooting in a food manufacturing
environment. The role focuses on equipment reliability, safe
execution, food safety compliance, and minimizing downtime through
quick, accurate response and routine maintenance. KEY
RESPONSIBILITIES – ELECTRO-MECHANICAL TECHNICIAN Perform scheduled
preventive and predictive maintenance (PM & PdM) on production and
utility equipment Respond to urgent and routine corrective
maintenance needs to minimize equipment downtime. Troubleshoot and
repair mechanical, electrical, and basic controls systems,
including: motors, gearboxes, conveyors, pneumatics, actuators, and
automated/robotic systems. Electrical components such as wiring,
cords, plugs, contactors, overloads, switches, disconnects, fuses,
relays, breakers, sensors, and limit/photo/proximity switches.
Assist in replacing or installing electrical components, variable
frequency drives (VFDs), and PLC processors. Use PLC software
(e.g., Allen-Bradley) for first-level diagnostics (e.g., checking
fault codes, I/O status, HMI interface)—no programming or code
changes permitted. Collaborate with Controls Engineers for advanced
troubleshooting and programming tasks. Maintain observation-only
access to controls tools, respecting all boundaries related to
programming, logic changes, and SCADA/MES systems. Accurately
complete and close work orders in the CMMS, documenting all work
performed for internal tracking and compliance (e.g., OSHA, USDA,
BRC). Maintain and interpret electrical schematics, ladder logic
diagrams, and technical manuals. Support a clean, safe, and
efficient workspace by adhering to LOTO, arc flash safety, GMP, and
all plant safety protocols. Work in cold environments, including
freezers, as well as at elevated heights or in confined spaces,
while wearing appropriate PPE. Work collaboratively with team
members to support troubleshooting and drive continuous
improvement. Other duties and special projects assigned by
leadership. SUCCESS CRITERIA – ELECTRO-MECHANICAL TECHNICIAN Work
safely, efficiently, and with minimal supervision. Adhere to all
Maintenance, Safety, GMP, Food Safety, and Quality policies at all
times. Arrive on time, work the full scheduled shift, and be
available for overtime as needed. Demonstrate consistent
punctuality and dependability. Communicate effectively with
supervisors and team members. Contribute positively to team culture
and build strong working relationships. Exhibit strong mechanical
and electrical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills. Complete
assigned tasks and work orders in a timely and accurate manner.
Record all maintenance activities properly for internal tracking
and regulatory compliance (J.T.M., BRC, OSHA, USDA). Demonstrate a
proactive maintenance mindset and eagerness to learn. Train
independently and collaborate with others to develop skills. Build
and maintain a solid understanding of all manufacturing processes
and equipment at J.T.M. EXPERIENCE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS –
ELECTRO-MECHANICAL TECHNICIAN High school diploma or GED required.
3 years of industrial maintenance experience (6 years preferred for
senior-level candidates), ideally in food manufacturing or other
regulated environments. Industrial Maintenance Certification, 3
year apprenticeship, or associate degree in a related technical
field preferred. Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting
skills with working knowledge of pneumatic, hydraulic, and steam
systems. Proficient in troubleshooting and repairing 480V 3-phase
systems, including motors, drives, and controls. Familiarity with
Allen-Bradley PLC systems for diagnostic use (no programming
required). Experience using and interpreting CMMS tools, electrical
schematics, mechanical blueprints, and ladder logic diagrams.
Proficient in the use of electrical test tools such as digital
multimeters, ammeters, and megohmmeters. Solid understanding of
process control instrumentation including photo eyes,
retroreflective, diffuse, laser, and proximity sensors. Ability to
comprehend and apply technical data, wiring diagrams, schematics,
and verbal instructions. Comfortable working in cold, hot,
elevated, and confined environments while wearing proper PPE.
Skilled in the safe use of hand and power tools; capable of
accurately bending and installing conduit. Familiarity with
National Electric Code, LOTO procedures, and arc flash safety
practices. OSHA 10/30 certification, state electrical license, or
journeyman credentials are a plus. Intermediate to advanced
computer skills required. This is a full-time onsite position. *JTM
